Mig-29K Fulcrum D by Les Knerr
Brand: Revell
 Scale: 1/32
Modeler: Les Knerr
 AddOns: Scratchbuilt modification

This thing was built as part of a club project - about 15 of us built MiG-29's using the Revell kit. All had different markings. Since I am an "old" Navy man, I did the Fulcrum D. As far as the mods go:

Modifications

- The dorsal spine was extended clear to the ducktail using sheet plastic.

- Chaff dispensers on the forward part of the venrtal stabs were eliminated and that area reshaped.

- Cord of the rudders was widened and stiffening panels added to the rudders.

- Bracing was added to the nose gear to strengthen it for carrier ops.

- Tailhook was added using telescoping brass tubing. The hook point was made from "stacked" plastic discs.

- If built as it comes in the kit, the radome has a pronounced "droop." This was corrected by simply attaching the kit radome upside down, adding a fillet and some putty

- Folded the wings, and added the extra missile pylons.

- Added the "saw-tooth" step to the leading edge of the horizontal stabs.

- The only after-market parts available at the time this was built was an Eduard photo etched set, consisting of an instrument panel and seat harness. The instrument panel was cut apart and reassembled to make it more closely resemble the layout of the K's panel.

- Side consoles were scratch built.

- Aux intakes on top of the LEX's were closed in as the K did not have them.

- Added the FOD covers.

The decals - side numbers and red stars are from a Microscale 1/32 scale MiG-21 sheet. The Soviet Naval Ensign on the vert stabs were painted on using Friskit stencils for the flag and the hammer and sickle. The red stars are decals.

As far as the green color on the wheels - a friend of mine gave me a bottle of "home brew" paint simply marked "Soviet Wheel Green." And silly me never asked where or how he got it.
