Some 20 years ago I started building the  model of HMS Hermes. Its the tenth Hermes which served in the Royal Navy. The model has a lenght of 3.15 mtr and is build in scale 1:72. This scale is used because of aircraft en figures which are availeble in this scale.Alttough the model is far from compleet is looks better and better.

To make it so realistic as possible I use light, soundeffects and moving parts. The flightdeck has landinglights. The bridge, flyco and hangar have lights. The trafficlights around the flyco are working to.  Some Harriers have lights on the wingtips and anticollision lights. The yellow resque Sea King of the Royal Air Force has 6 lights including two landing lights. The main rotor is designed to turn and in front of  the heli is a flightdeck officer standing who’s giving signals by  moving his arms up and down.

The model is radio controlled and it needs some 75 kg to reach the waterline.   This model was build in configuration in which the ship was during the Falkland War in 1982. I started to collect materiaal from HMS Hermes in 1985. I was fasinated because off its beautiful shape especialy the island. I those scale 1:72 because of the aircraft and figures I could use. The ship is build in two parts because off transport. It’s far from compleet.
