Considerations

This is my actual built for my 1/144th collection of carrier based planes and helicopters. I used the REVELL kit no. 04032 of an HH-53 D, because my aim was to show a RH-53 D Sea Stallion of HM-16 “Sea Falcons” during the “Operation Eagle Claw”, the disastrous attempt of freeing the american hostages during the Iranian revolution in april 1980.

During that operation the helicopters were painted in sand colors, but in the eve they show their colorful blue-grayish livery.

Achievement

For coloring the Sea Stallion I used Valejo acryl colors, a little pre-shading, washing and highlighting afterwards. The details of the folded rear rotor are scratch built.

The decals were mostly self-printed, the photo-etched folding parts of the rotor are made by Brengun and should normally be used for a SH-60. The little fire truck is made by Brengun too. The “mule” is made by Dragon, the trolley is a white metal one by Century Wings.

During the DPMV exhibition (Germany’s plastic modelling section) on may the 17/18th this model won the gold medal in the category “aircrafts 1/72 and smaller”. As I always say: “Go 1/144 – beat 1/72!”
